CAPELA DE SANTA CRUZ
Santa Cruz Chapel
Consagrada à invocação da Santa Cruz, a capela foi mandada edificar pelo maltês António Secare.
Este búzio (mergulhador) participou no resgate da carga do navio espanhol San Pedro de Alcantara, naufragado nos rochedos da Papoa em 1786. Operação de grande importância, reuniu em Peniche alguns dos melhores mergulhadores de salvados da Europa.
Segundo inscrição patente na fachada, o templo data de "1789 – ANTÓNIO SECAREBVZIO DE NASÃÕ MALTEZA MANDOV EDEFICAR ESTA CAPE".
Anualmente, aqui se celebra o dia de Santa Cruz, a 3 de maio.
Consecrated to invocation of Santa Cruz, the chapel was ordered by Maltese Antonio Secare.This diver participated in the rescue of a Spanish San Pedro de Alcantara ship’s cargo that sank on the rocks of Papoa in 1786.
